South River Arts Studios Gallery Exhibitions

On Thursday, March 30th 2023, I had the opportunity to go to the art opening for my two pieces in two great shows at the same time! South River Arts Studios had 2 openings in one night, for the “Snakes and Things That Look Like Snakes”, and the “Second Chances” shows that both opened on the same night. I am beyond grateful to be amongst such great artists for both, and to have them featured for so long too! They’re both up until April 28th, if you have the opportunity I highly recommend going and checking it out, and not just because I have two pieces featured.

The first, in the show “Snakes and Things That Look Like Snakes”, is called “Please Sign Here” ⅓, Black, and is the 3rd linocut that I’ve made and I am very happy with how it came out. I’m really taking to this medium, and I already have an idea for a few more that I need to get to after everything else that’s in the cards. I still need to experiment more with paper and inking but it’s a process and I’m definitely improving!

The concept behind this one is the slimy feeling you can get signing a contract, no matter how big or small, that just makes you feel like it’s going to come back and bite you somehow at some point. The lawyers are great at what they do, and it always seems like they know how to manipulate language to get what they want from whoever they want and seem to make people squirm simply because they have the power to do so.

The second, in “Second Chances” is “An Ode to Opulence and Excess II”, which is a collage piece from a misprint of my “Clermont Lounge” poster with magazine clippings. It ties the idea behind the Clermont Lounge which was a dirty and grungy place and how it has  turned more into a tourist trap and higher-end hotel (but with an admittedly very nice restaurant).

Both of these pieces are for sale, framed, in the gallery. If you have the chance to see them in person please send me an Instagram DM or email! And of course be sure to follow @southriverartsstudios on Instagram and pay them a visit when you get the chance!
